Crete, a Mediterranean island where life has been flourishing on tasty, healthy food for 5,000 years!

The Cretan love for life and diet provide answers to the quest of humanity & the planet for wellbeing & sustainability.

Crete is the birthplace of the Mediterranean diet + Harvard University studied the diet of the Cretans in the 1960s and declared Crete the ultimate blue zone.

Why Crete, why now?

  • Heraklion, the capital of Crete, has been a UNESCO City of Gastronomy since December 2023

  • The Cretan diet has been associated with increased life expectancy, 6 years longer than the average in Western Countries

  • What greater proof of sustainability one can ask for than a diet whose protagonist products have remained unchanged for the last 5,000 years: olive oil, wine, honey, wild herbs, wild greens, legumes, cheese

  • The 1st winery in the world & the 1st documented use of olive oil in the world

“MANTINADA”

Oftentimes, Cretans express themselves through a mantinada, a spontaneous poem composed of a 15-syllable rhyming couplet in the Cretan dialect. Taking inspiration from the mantinada’s spirit and form, we have written some mantinades for you (in English, of course) to hopefully make you chuckle while telling you a thing or two about each of our products!
